Dandie Dinmont Terrier: This is Jackson, our very fun loving Dandie Dinmont Terrier puppy dog. This item was filmed when he was about 4 months old. We have given up on buying our pups very expensive toys as they seem happier with old plastic bottles and a tatty rubber chicken. His mother Scarlett loves to play with the rubber chicken (please see one of my other videos posted on YouTube) but Jackson takes it one stage further. He likes to play hockey with it, using the rubber chicken as a tool to hit his other toys around the floor. The first time I saw him hit one of his toys like this I thought it was a fluke, but he just keeps on doing it and it is his favorite game to play. I have never seen another dog play quite like this and I think Jackson will grow up to be a wonderfully eccentric companion and a lot of fun to have about the house. Dandies are I believe one of the only dog breeds with a genuine sense of humor! The Dandie Dinmont Terrier is one of the UK’s rarest breeds. They are officially designated by the UK Kennel Club as a “Vulnerable Native Breed” due to their very low numbers.
It’s not a question of who will turn on each other so much as when in this trust-game thriller. Four friends who fancy themselves art thieves suddenly owe a million dollars to a powerful thug (Forest Whitaker). The solution they come up with is morbidly ingenious: one will die to save the others. But that’s never the sort of pact you can expect people to follow through on, and therein lies the suspense. While it isn’t Hitchcock (or even Tarantino), it isn’t half-bad and it maintains a compelling

Riley is off to dog daycare today. Which means I get some peace and quiet. (And hopefully I will also get a lot of work done). Riley goes to Bark-Atl, and we really like it. They don’t have any cages, and Riley comes home exhausted. They have a bark-cam so you can see your dog play during the day. They also take adorable photos. There is the most hilarious photo of Riley during Christmas time. They dressed her like a Reindeer. I’ll never stop laughing about it. Riley doesn’t want me to post the photo though.

Anyway, she was getting pretty hyper so it is perfect timing for a trip to daycare. She is jumping around in the background right now acting a fool. She wants to add her two cents:

Riley’s Post
Everybody chant it with me and wag your tail on beat: “Day-Care, Day-Care, Day-Care!” Whooo–hoooo! Playing at Doggy Day Care is where you’ll find me today. I love that place. Every time I go I have so much fun. Most of the day I walk around making sure the other dogs are all where they are supposed to be. Some people call this… herding… I believe that is the word. I also very much enjoy having puppies chase me. If you don’t know already…I am very fast. (Just check out my fetch video and you will see the fastest bestest dog in the universe!) There is only one day at daycare that was particularly horrible. They tried to dress me up as a Reindeer. No, I am being serious. I am not joking…I wish that I was. Then they took a very humiliating picture of me. I can’t say that I am proud that I let them get away with that. My Mommy wanted to post that picture up right here on this page. But I put my paw down. There is no way I was going to let her get away with that. I mean, can’t a dog get some respect? But every other day is so much fun. I jump right out of the car and into the daycare. I don’t even miss my parents much–I know they’ll be back for me when its time for dinner. I better go. It is time for some barking fun!

Riley’s Comment
Fetch is for dogs who really know how to move. I know how to run like the wind and I love my ball! And that tennis racket….mmmm it’s my favorite toy because when it comes out, I get to run super fast. See ya later!

Hello Doglirious!!!

Allow me to take a few moments to introduce the star of this Dog Story: My nine month old Yorkshire Terrier, Cha Cha. (That would be her in the photo, lovingly gazing at my face. Or, plotting a way to lick me in the mouth).

Cha Cha and Me

I acquired Cha Cha when she was three months old; she was born 4/16/08. I’ve always wanted a Yorkie, and this past July I became more serious about it. I saw an ad in the local paper from a breeder in Naples, FL (two hours south of Tampa, which is where I live) and contacted her. A few email exchanges later, I was driving to Naples to get my new dog. Cha Cha — or Baby, as she was known at the time — was the last of her litter.

When we met, she was outside playing with her mom. Although she was sold to me as a purebred Yorkshire Terrier, I still think she’s mixed with another breed. She’s only 7 pounds, but when we encounter other Yorkies, she’s always the larger dog. Her snout and legs are longer than purebred Yorkies, and her tail isn’t clipped. But, she’s adorable. I signed the paperwork and talked with the breeder for a while, then it was back in the car to Tampa. I was nervous…Cha Cha was nervous…but I was excited. I finally had my dog!

The first few weeks were difficult. I had never owned a pet before, nevermind a dog, and didn’t realize the amount of work it takes to get them trained. We immediately enrolled in puppy obedience classes at PetCo, which helped to an extent. Had I been consistent with the training, she’d be a rockstar right now. It’s all my fault.

Cha Cha is a well-behaved dog. She loves attention, she loves to hide her treats to find later, rarely barks and she loves carpet. She claws at it, pees on it…she loves carpet.

Right now, our largest challenge/triumph is housebreaking. I recently moved, and my new home has been much more accommodating to housebreaking than my previous apartment (no stairs to climb, for one). I also pushed my guilt out of the way and began crate-training her…which is a completely separate post.

Stay tuned as I share more of the day-to-day fun with Cha Cha. Next up: The joys and guilt of crate training!
