How to Find the Best Veterinarian for Your Dog

By Admin | July 30, 2009

Just as humans need medical checkups and urgent care when sick, your dog also needs qualified veterinary care if anything ever goes wrong. But how exactly do you find the right veterinarian for your pooch?

Seek a Trusted Opinion

First of all, ask your friends which vet they use. Also, talk to your groomer and doggy daycare workers. They should have the inside scoop on the area’s best medical providers. And lastly, check various online sites like Yelp, Pets911, and Kudzu. You can often learn a lot from other people’s experiences. Oh, and If you do rely heavily on your Web-based research, be sure to actually call the vet before you bring your dog into the office. Observe the professionalism, tone, and body language… Continue reading How to Find the Best Veterinarian for Your Dog

Tug of War Dog Toy Worth Its Weight in Kibble

By Michelle | May 27, 2009

Okay, it might not be worth its weight in kibble, but it is definitely worth the moderate price for these three toys!

Yankers—Dog Toy Series Review

This tug-of-war toy is the best (non-rubber one) that we have found *so far.* For some reason, Riley loves the cloth tugs but won't put the rubber ones in her mouth, so we are stuck with the ones more easily destructible.

Riley loves her snake and fish Yankers. Unfortunately, her alligator died a premature death.

The three toys are made extra strong, there is a ton of stitching which holds up well to dog yanking.

Stitched inside of the toy is a durable "belt." The belt reinforces the toy providing for yanking fun.

Yanking with Riley:

How to Have a Happy Dog

By Admin | May 13, 2009

Published in 2008, this book is a pretty little pocket book. It features short descriptions of fun games you can play with your dog or puppy (peek-a-boo) and short games you can play with your dog and small kids ("Snoopy says...Sit!").  And cute things to show of too your friends (like "In-DOG-NITO") where you dress your little friend up in different hats, getting  her used to wearing things on her head. But this book is more "tips" than anything else.  It is a fun read, and you can flip from page-to-page without losing the essence of the book.  Unfortunately it never goes into depth about any one subject. The bottom line: this book is recommended for light beach reading.   With it's pretty cover and glossy pages, it would even be a… Continue reading How to Have a Happy Dog

Riley the Spokesmodel

By Michelle | April 23, 2009

Riley has become the face of Classic Hound.com, one of our favorite online stores for collars, bedding, and all things (hound) chic! Our Riley will be featured at least for the rest of the month... so go check her out! In case you're wondering how life has changed around here since the announcement, she's still the down-to-earth doggy (diva) she was before being recognized for her divine looks.  With the $20 prize, I think we'll  get another Classic Hound collar for our pup's hard modeling work.  After all, it's not easy being as beautiful as Riley-Poo ;) Oh...and be sure to submit your pooch's best photo for consideration in future Classic Hound contests!

Review of City Dog: A Novel

City Dog: A Novel, by Alison Pace

West Highland Terriers are proud, cute and fun loving dogs.  The star of the book, City Dog: A Novel by Alison Pace, just happens to be Carlie, a West Highland Terrier that is true to type.  Carlie explains about her breed:  "The Westie will not be ignored!" And constantly attempts to get the attention of her beloved owner Amy.westiecitydog In the book Carlie the Westie becomes a star of a reality T.V. show.  Perhaps the best part of this novel is when Carlie narrates a few chapters.  Carlie begins her chapter by declaring, "This is a book about me!"  She is so cute once cannot help but love her. Most of the other chapters are… Continue reading Review of City Dog: A Novel
