Question by CHAO§: BB~ Puppy Group 1st!!!!: Grooming tools…….?
Just wondering

1) What do you use to brush/comb your dog
2) What kind of other grooming do you do? Be it show or whatever
3) What kind of shampoo do you use?

My answers

1) Fine toothed hacksaw blade
Question- Have you ever heard of using a hacksaw blade as a comb/de-shedding tool? Or have you used one yourself?

2) I do show grooming with all my dogs cept the pets
3) a variety of medicated shampoos cause they are the best
oh and the hacksaw blade doesnt hurt the dog at all and in fact all my dogs love it.
It works great on coats. It doesnt damage the coat at all, way better then the furminator that does damage the coats.
I have used sulfoxydex, dermabenss, pyoben, and malaseb. Just depends on what the dog needs at the time. I love how it makes the coats look, way better then any other shampoo. I dont have bad coats i just like using these shampoos
im not looking for recommendations i just wanted to see what others are using cause im bored

I am a groomer and yes I have heard of a hacksaw blade being used but have never used one.
For my guys I use a grooming mit for quick ups and a bore bristle every other day.
Dremel for their nails and use Nautre’s Choice Shampoo, and their other products.
I also use monthy tea tree oil threatments for their dry skin issues

  2. Divapom says:

    1) pin brush, Slicker brush, line comb. Scissors for “sanitary area”
    2) file nails with dremmel.
    3) I don’t bathe her myself. She goes to groomer for baths every couple of months. Bath & brush out only. I like her natural.

  3. Lana Lang says:

Hacksaw blade, eh? That’s a new one.

    1. Dog brush, soft on one side, wire on the other.

2 I cut my dog’s nails if that’s what your are asking. I use a scissor type of nail trimmer – the one that looks like a garden tool. I don’t have to pluck her. She has short hair.

    3. My dog has allergies, so we bathe her in Douxo Seborreah Medicated Shampoo. You could get it without a prescription. It is the best shampoo I ever used. It’s even better than human shampoo. It sudses up so well – a little goes a long way, and then the shampoo rinses out like a dream. No residue. Her skin remains emoliated, and she is soooo fresh and clean. She also scratches less. I guess that’s what the shampoo is medicated for.

What kind of shampoo do you use?

  4. Joanie says:

If you like your hacksaw blade, you might want to try a fine-toothed curry comb, like the kind they use on horses.

  5. Alicia says:

    1) I use a slicker brush daily and every 2-4 weeks I will use the Furminator. Every 6 weeks I use my Pedipaws to grind his nails down. I also use Non-scented baby wipes to clean the inside of his ears.

    2) Just daily maintenance. I’m taking Brasky to the groomer’s soon for a bath and blow-out though. He’s due. I usually bathe him myself but it’s 10 degrees outside.

3)I use the all-natural shampoo for dogs called Natures Choice. It’s not bad priced and works well. Plus it doesn’t dry out Brasky’s skin.

**Tell me more about using a hacksaw as a grooming tool! I’m intrigued by this! E-mail if you want.

  6. Cavalier KCS mom says:

    1) What do you use to brush/comb your dog
    I use a slicker brush

    2) What kind of other grooming do you do? Be it show or whatever
I mostly groom pet quality dogs. But i can make them look like show qualiity. I also groom show dogs every once in a while. Mainly Cavalier King Charles Spaniels .

    3) What kind of shampoo do you use?
I use “Kelco”. My favorite is the Wild Animal “Wild Thang”.

  7. Fur and Fiction says:

    I’m simple here:

    1. Mostly a comb and slicker brush, though I sometimes use an Oster rake when she is blowing her coat.

    2. I am a grooming assistant for a large pet supply chain store.

    3. Bad question for me. I use what I am told to use. I’ve learned that, in my case, it is best not to ask.

  8. vintagecollies says:

I have Collies with big coats, so I stick to a greyhound fine tooth comb and a pin brush for them.

I groom my own dogs, normal grooming weekly, bathing every other month, and I am also a professional pet groomer.

For shampoos I have found the brand I love and have stuck with for 14 years, Kelco, all natural and organic, soap free shampoos. I prefer “Filthy Animal” for my groom clients, unless they need medicated shampoos, and then it’s “Med Plus” on them. “Dr Hypo” for my own dogs, with the “Filthy Animal” on the white collars and ruffs (it’s a tremendous whitener). I use the “Ultra Silk” conditioner on both my dogs and groom clients.
