Question by Nicole: What is the best brand of dog food?
I have 2 year old pit bull that suffers from rank gas. Right now he’s on Flint River Ranch which is about $ 35 per 20lb bag but I’ve heard people say it isn’t that good. So what is the best food for him. Money isn’t an issue, I just want my guy to be on the best food possible, preferably one that lessens his gas. So what’s the best dog food for him?

Flint River is a good brand. There is no ture one best dog food out there because different things work for different dogs.
I feed my bullies taste of the wild. Its grain free and has no by-products or fillers. They do great on it! Its about $ 40 for a 30 pound bag so its not to bad in cost.
Some other brands to check out are
Evo
Wellness
Chicken Soup
Blue
i was just gonna let you know that you’re dog is absolutely gorgeous!
I have tried just about every top brand dogfood. I think EVO (The
Ancestral Diet) is the best. Made by Innova. Good luck!
in my opinion none, dogs should not be eating any of that dried or canned crap.
BARF and raw is the best in my opinion.
ADD- what is up with the thumbs down i was only voiceing my opinion, but odviously people dont want to listen to the TRUTH.
I personally prefer Merrick. Its corn & by-product free. It has grain, but the grain is highly digestible & nutrious.
Flint River Ranch is decent food, but it has wheat in it (At least most of their varieties do) and wheat can cause allergies and other issues so it may be causing the gas. Find a food with no corn, wheat or soy and see if that helps.
Merrick- http://www.merrickpetcare.com/ stopped one of my dogs from stinky gas
Prey Model Raw Diet.
If you MUST go with dry kibble, then something like Evo, Canidae, Wellness, Blue Buffalo, Diamond, etc…
Last I heard, Flint River was a fine food . . . hold on, I’ll check the ingredients . . . well, looks like they use grains, so I’d find something else.
I just used up the last of my Taste of the Wild High Prairie, so Satchmo’s back on raw food for a couple days now. HUGE difference! He’s now pooping about twice a day, compared with 4-6 times a day on kibble, and his stools aren’t soft and almost diahrrea consistency anymore – they’re hard and compact. And even though Taste of the Wild is grain-free and one of the better foods available, he had bad gas, all of the time.
I would feed a grain-free food to start with, but overall a raw diet really is the best source of nutrition.
Hope this helps!
I told you it may very well be annal glands…..?!!!!
Flint River Ranch is a good food – I feed it to most of my dogs.
They do have different varieties. The standard one has wheat in it, but I have fed both their Lamb and Millet and their Trout and potato to my dog who has food allergies, and she has done fine with both. Neither of those has corn or wheat.
So…you might try one of the other varieties.
Flint River Ranch is an excellent food. Does he get treats? Table food? Does he ONLY eat his dog food? The only way to know it is the FRR is if that is the ONLY thing he eats for several weeks. If this is already the case, I can tell you that my dogs do best on California Natural-it’s a limited ingredient food good for dogs with gastro. issues and food allergies. Made by Natura (the company makes Innova and Healthwise, too), this dog has worked out best for my own dogs. Excessive gas can be from eating crappy foods (again-FRR is excellent), eating human foods (esp. fatty meats or anything out of the ordinary for the dog), or it can be from digestive illlness (colitis, for example).
You should perhaps discuss his gas issues with the vet next time you have him in-all dogs pass gas daily, just like people do, but if it’s extreme, talking to the vet won’t hurt.
